If you’re following me on social media, you’ll have already seen my posts about my trip to Madison, WI. But if you haven’t, let me tell you, it’s been a fun and memorable week out here with my wife. We got to celebrate our anniversary, her birthday, and go out on dates every night. If you’re a parent of young children like we are, you know that it’s always that easy to go out on a date with your spouse. This was a great this was a great opportunity for us to spend some quality time together without feeling pressed for time.
But Why Madison, WI?
Why Madison? My wife had to come out here for an Epic class, and we decided to have me tag along so we could spend some time together. Big thank you to Grandma for staying home with the kids for the week.
What a nice day it is!
We lucked out big time with the weather because let me tell you… IT. WAS. BEAUTIFUL!! We stayed at the Concourse hotel right in downtown Madison. No offense to the hotel, but it’s not the hotel that makes staying there great, it’s the location. Being in downtown Madison is incredible. You can walk right out the door to the hotel to countless restaurants, the Capital Building, the lake, Comedy on State – comedy club where we saw Louis Katz (Instagram) and Gary Gulman (Instagram) and we got to meet Gary too, we rented bikes and rode around Madison, and we got to see Avengers: Infinity Wars.
Walking downtown was wonderful. State street is full of shops, restaurants, trendy people, and will take you right to the University of Wisconsin. We didn’t go to the graduation ceremony, but we got to see a ton of graduates out with their families on Thursday evening, still in their caps and gowns, celebrating their hard academic work. Congrats to the 2018 graduates of UW!
Here’s a list of the places we went to in Madison, WI:
- Concourse Hotel
- The Old Fashioned
- Ian’s Pizza on State
- Icon Madison Restaurant
- Muramoto Downtown
- AMC Madison 6
- Short Stack Eatery
The Short Stack Eatery was the last place we went to for breakfast before leaving to the airport. I absolutely loved it. I had a delicious breakfast burrito and my wife got eggs Benedict. They make their eggs benedict with a biscuit instead of an English muffin, which was a delightful surprise. And their 3-cheese grits are as scrumptious as they come. out of all the places we went, which none were a disappointment, Short Stack Eatery and Ian’s Pizza were my favorite for food. The Old Fashioned has the best cheese curds, but be prepared, this is not a healthy choice by any means! Save it for vacation mode and cheat days (but don’t miss the opportunity to try them, they’re so good!).
With the college-town feel, the big city feel, the excellent weather, and the time to spend with my wife, this trip was an absolute treat. I’m very happy I came out with my wife, even though we missed our kids like crazy.
I recommend Madison, WI for anyone looking for another U.S. city to visit.
